This multi-use trail system centers on historic Austin and follows existing two-track roads through the Toiyabe Range. Suitable for full-size 4WD vehicles, OHVs, equestrians, mountain bikes, and hikers—expect to share the trails.
Trails climb from sagebrush basins through aspen groves to high-elevation terrain with rocky sections, stream crossings, and significant elevation changes. Highlights include trout streams near Big Creek Campground, historic mining sites, and Stokes Castle just south of Austin. Panoramic vistas abound throughout the range.
For a longer day trip, cross over the mountains to Kingston and explore Toquima Cave or Spencer Hot Springs (note: roads can become slick mud when wet).
