Copper Ridge - Rated 4
This route combines several 4x4 roads north of Moab, near the western boundary of Arches National Park. It lies east of the Moab Fault in younger rock formations than many regional trails. The slickrock sections are on the upper Entrada Formation, with views often featuring erosion features within that same formation. A prominent exposure occurs at Klondike Bluffs, visible from Highway 191 on approach. Some segments cross the softer Morrison Formation, which becomes extremely slippery and potentially impassable when wet. Eroded portions can challenge near-stock vehicles.
Scenery
The trail leads to a scenic pour-off into lower Sevenmile Canyon. Klondike Bluffs offers mid-range views of white-capped red rock towers and canyon walls. Tower Arch is clearly visible, with additional distant arches in view.
Surface
Primarily dirt and rocky dirt, with extended slickrock stretches and broad sandy wash bottoms.
Trail Details
The route passes near colorful hills known for dinosaur bone discoveries. After the main slickrock section, two steep climbs on eroded dirt and rock present the primary challenges.
Length: 64 total, 35 off-highway
Min Tire Size: 33+ inches
Winch: No, Front Locker: No, Rear Locker: No
