Town Tonopah
Surface Sand
Pets Permitted on Leash

Description
Located just north of Tonopah beside the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project, the Crescent Sand Dunes (also known as Tonopah Dunes) offer a remote and exciting playground of steep, tall sand hills with very few visitors.
One of the most fascinating things about these dunes is that they are true “singing sand dunes.” When the wind moves over them, they create a rare singing or drumming sound — something that occurs in only a handful of dunes worldwide.
Staging areas and dispersed camping are permitted around the dunes. There are no facilities or services available on site, but the town of Tonopah is conveniently close. Use caution when parking and staging — the sand near the edges can be very soft, making it easy for vehicles to get stuck.
Other Information
Open OHV use is allowed on all un-vegetated sand areas only. In vegetated zones, riders must stay on existing roads and trails. Paddle tires are strongly recommended for motorcycles due to the steep and loose sand conditions.
This unique desert dune area delivers a thrilling, one-of-a-kind riding adventure that’s perfect for anyone who loves ripping through soft sand in a beautiful and remote setting.
Helpful Tip
Bring recovery gear, plenty of water, and sun protection. The area is remote with limited services nearby.
