This route accesses Dome Plateau, a large highland area north of the Colorado River and east of Arches National Park. From Moab, the approach requires more than 28 miles of highway driving via Utah 128 to enter near Dewey Bridge. The southern portion of the plateau is forested with pinyon and juniper and dissected by canyons. Nearby Poison Strip and Yellowcat areas contain numerous historic vanadium and uranium mine sites.
Scenery
The trail follows the Colorado River upstream from Dewey Bridge before ascending. It runs below Entrada Sandstone cliffs featuring three notable arches in the initial miles. The plateau rises southward, interrupted by canyons that the route crosses en route to a prominent overlook high above the Colorado River. On the return northward, distant arches in Arches National Park are visible, and the trail passes near La Boca Arch. The route includes dinosaur tracks and offers access to interesting sandstone caves. This is a scenic, family-friendly trail suitable for a relaxed outing.
Surface
Primarily dirt, with the eastern section sandy, rocky, and bumpy. One hill includes loose rock and ledges. Approximately 30 miles of paved highway provide access at each end of the off-road portion.
Trail Details
The main technical feature is βAgain-and-Again Hill,β a series of rocky, ledge climbs. Trail leaders may provide a guided bypass option for this section.
