The trail ranks among the top 4×4 routes in national parks. This popular trail passes through the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. A park fee and day use permit are required; obtain the permit at recreation.gov/permits/4251904 or in person at the Needles Visitor Center. ATVs and UTVs are prohibited, even if licensed. Pets are not permitted. An extensive network of hiking trails is available, including the Joint Trail. Rating Difficult The trail features steep and narrow sections. Extremely tight switchbacks may require backing down and up short distances. Rock ledges demand high ground clearance and 4-wheel drive. Skid plates and lockers are highly recommended.
