Golden Spike + Where Eagles Dare - Rated 7
This route completes the full Golden Spike Trail and incorporates the Where Eagles Dare loop, adding demanding slickrock dome ascents and descents. Refer to the Golden Spike Trail description for baseline details on that portion. The Where Eagles Dare section requires a mechanically sound vehicle with excellent brakes and climbing capability. The slickrock domes feature exceptionally tall, steep climbs and descents—drops significantly exceed those on Hell’s Revenge in scale and exposure. Drivers must ensure top-condition equipment for safe handling of extreme ascents and descents.
Scenery
Includes all views from the Golden Spike Trail, plus additional perspectives of railroad tracks leading to the Potash Plant and a clear overlook of Corona Arch.
Surface
Identical to the Golden Spike Trail: primarily slickrock with ledges, off-camber sections, boulders, and occasional sandy areas.
Trail Details
The core Golden Spike route provides the foundation of technical challenges (see separate description). The Where Eagles Dare addition forms a scenic slickrock roller coaster on steep Navajo Sandstone. It ascends and descends around a large bowl, culminating at an overlook of Corona Arch and the railroad tracks in the gorge below. The loop continues with further steep climbs and descents to exit the bowl, rejoining the Golden Spike Trail at a different point than the departure.
Length: 41 overall, 23 off highway
Min Tire Size: 35+ inches
Winch: No, Front Locker: Yes, Rear Locker: Yes
