Jax Trax - Rated 5

Jax Trax - Rated 5

This route explores Cameo South, an area 25 miles south of Moab never before featured. Named in tribute to early club member Jack Bickers (Jax), who rediscovered many old mineral exploration roads in the 1990s. The trip balances moderate four-wheeling challenges with maximum scenic exposure. Extreme rock-crawlers may find it tame, while novices should consider alternatives. Scenery Bounded by Wilson Arch (north), Steen Road (south), Lisbon Valley (east), and US 191 (west). Features include Cameo Mesa, Agate Point, Mikie's Knob, and Casa Colorado Rock, with the La Sal Mountains dominating the skyline and the Abajo Mountains visible in the distance. Surface Mix of sandy wash bottoms, two-track dirt, frequent slickrock climbs/descents, and occasional shelfy hills. Trail Details Rated for moderate difficulty with few named obstacles. Notable exceptions are “Top Notch” and “El Diablo” (the latter intimidating due to exposure but bypassable and not technically severe for most vehicles). Challenges include small ledges crossing rock layers, soft sandy sections through sagebrush, and rubble-strewn hills. Length: 80 overall, 16 off pavement Min Tire Size: 33+ inches Winch: No, Front Locker: No, Rear Locker: Yes
