Description
Spanning roughly 90 square miles around Lahontan Reservoir, the Lahontan NV OHV Trails deliver over 400 miles of routes through classic high-desert terrain. This expansive network includes two-track dirt roads, sandy washes, and open areas that wind along the reservoir shoreline and out into the surrounding public lands.
Riders will enjoy a mix of easy cruising routes and more challenging sections with beautiful views of the water, cottonwoods, and wide-open Nevada desert. The area is ideal for day trips, longer explorations, or combining with boating, fishing, and camping at Lahontan State Recreation Area.
Other Information
Motor vehicles are permitted on designated routes only. Within Lahontan State Recreation Area, only licensed and street-legal vehicles are allowed on approved roads (no unlicensed ATVs or motorcycles on park trails). Stay on existing roads and trails to help protect the fragile desert environment and shoreline.
Dispersed camping is popular throughout much of the area, with developed options also available in the state recreation area. The reservoir and surrounding lands offer a unique mix of water-based recreation and desert OHV riding.
This large, accessible OHV network is a favorite for riders looking for scenic variety and plenty of space to roam in western Nevada.
Helpful Tip
The area can be hot and dry — always carry plenty of water, fuel, and sun protection. Check current conditions and regulations, especially near the state park boundaries.
