Metal Masher - Moab UT
The trail features challenging obstacles such as “Rock Chucker” and “Widow Maker.”
This loop encircles Arths Rim and includes a range of difficult obstacles. Scenic views are available, including prominent overlooks in Moab. The trail has increased in difficulty over time; for example, the “Widow Maker” obstacle has grown from approximately 4 feet high to double that height and continues to erode. Most vehicles require winching to ascend it. Consider coordinating with another vehicle to use the bypass route for winching assistance or as an anchor point. The trail accommodates various off-highway vehicles (OHVs) and is particularly frequented by utility terrain vehicles (UTVs). Expect higher traffic on weekends.
Rating Difficult
Recommended equipment includes lifts, larger tires, and lockers. Not suitable for stock vehicles. The optional “Rock Chucker” section is extreme and intended for large rigs only. Barren slickrock areas can make navigation challenging. New roads from drilling activity may cause confusion. The route is marked with MM signs, white dashes, and black tire marks. Follow the center of the designated path to avoid trail expansion. Not recommended for ATVs.
