This iconic spot serves as an excellent staging location for OHV riders exploring the surrounding Dixie Valley region and its rugged mountain foothills.
While much of the flat valley floor belongs to the Fallon Naval Air Station and is closed to the public, the mountains and foothills encircling Dixie Valley provide hundreds of miles of exciting off-road riding. Expect classic Basin and Range scenery with wide valleys, dramatic mountain ranges, canyons, and sweeping ridgeline views.
Middlegate Station offers a unique and welcoming basecamp with a bar, restaurant, mini-mart for snacks and supplies, and free overnight camping. Be sure to try their famous Monster Burger while you’re there!
Popular day trips from Middlegate include the historic Wonder Mine to the north and the Eagleville Mine to the south. Whether you’re looking for a quick ride or a multi-day adventure, the trails around Middlegate deliver plenty of variety and scenery in this remote high-desert landscape.
Other Information
Motor vehicles are permitted on designated routes only. Please respect all military closures associated with the Fallon Naval Air Station as well as the boundaries of the surrounding Wilderness Study Areas (Clan Alpine Mountains, Desatoya Mountains, Job Peak, and Stillwater Range).

Camp for free, enjoy the quirky atmosphere of the station, and head out each day to discover new trails along one of America’s most legendary highways.
