Description
The Mina-Candelaria OHV Trails encompass a vast riding area that includes the communities of Mina and Luning, along with the historic ghost town of Candelaria in Mineral County. This extensive network offers something for nearly every rider — from wide-open, extremely flat valley roads perfect for speed enthusiasts to more technical trails winding through the surrounding hills.
History lovers will especially enjoy this area, as it contains a remarkable concentration of historic mining sites, particularly around the ghost town of Candelaria. The landscape features a mix of active and inactive mining operations as well as old ranching areas. Remnants of Nevada’s rich mining heritage are sprinkled throughout the region.
Trails are primarily dirt and frequently cross fence lines as they navigate ranch, mining, and utility roads that lead into remote backcountry. BLM directional signage is infrequent, so good route-finding skills are helpful. Multiple staging areas are conveniently located both directly off US-95 and further back along county roads.
Other Information
Motor vehicles are permitted on designated routes only. Please be respectful of all fences, signage, and property boundaries — many areas are a mix of public land and active private ranching or mining property. Obey posted speed limits on local and county roads.
This remote high-desert area provides a fantastic combination of open riding, technical challenges, and deep historical interest. Whether you’re chasing ghost towns, exploring old mine sites, or simply enjoying the wide-open Nevada landscape, the Mina-Candelaria trail system delivers plenty of adventure.
Services such as food, gas, and accommodations are available in Hawthorne to the north or Tonopah to the south along US-95.
Helpful Tip
Plan ahead — this is remote country with limited services and cell coverage. Always respect private property and stay on designated routes to protect both the land and future access.
