Poison Spider + Where Eagles Dare - Rated 7
This route combines the standard Poison Spider Mesa Trail with the demanding Where Eagles Dare loop. The extreme steepness of ascents and descents requires a mechanically sound vehicle (especially strong brakes) and an experienced driver comfortable with significant exposure—drops surpass those on Hell’s Revenge. The trip includes all major Poison Spider obstacles plus roughly one-third of Golden Spike’s challenges, resulting in a high trail rating and strict equipment demands. Only well-maintained, reliable vehicles should attempt this route.
Scenery
Incorporates standard Poison Spider views (La Sal Mountains, Colorado River Canyon, slickrock mounds) plus additional perspectives from Where Eagles Dare: Corona Arch area, railroad tracks to the Potash Plant, and overlooks of surrounding terrain.
Surface
Identical to the regular Poison Spider Mesa Trail: primarily slickrock with ledges, off-camber sections, boulders, and occasional sandy areas.
Trail Details
Poison Spider provides scenic slickrock travel and classic obstacles. Where Eagles Dare adds larger slickrock domes with extremely steep climbs, sidehills, and descents on solid Navajo Sandstone, along with views of railroad tracks and Corona Arch. Several Golden Spike obstacles must also be navigated.
Length: 36 overall, 21 off highway
Min Tire Size: 35+ inches
Winch: No, Front Locker: Yes, Rear Locker: Yes
