The Great Basin National Park is just minutes away for additional exploration when you want a change of scenery.
For OHV enthusiasts, a popular day trip is NF 453 south of Sacramento Pass in Spring Valley. Staging is convenient in a large gravel parking area off Shoshone Road. The trail climbs toward Mt. Washington with steep switchbacks and loose rock. The first 4.5 miles are suitable for full-size 4x4 vehicles. Beyond the old mining area, the trail becomes narrower. Important: OHV use is not permitted within Great Basin National Park boundaries — please stay on designated BLM roads only.
The area also supports excellent horseback riding with horse camping available and an established corral on site. Anglers should obtain a fishing permit in advance through the NDOW website.
