Santa Rosa Mountains OHV Trails
A beautiful, rugged, and remote mountain range in northern Nevada.
Location Humboldt County
Towns McDermitt, Paradise Valley, Winnemucca
Pets Permitted on Leash
Fees No
Wilderness Area Santa Rosa / Paradise Peak Wilderness
Description
The Santa Rosa Mountains rise dramatically in Nevada’s remote north, offering a wild and primitive landscape of towering granite peaks, seasonal streams, and pockets of shimmering aspen groves.
Unlike many ranges, this one has no alpine lakes or lush meadows — instead it delivers raw beauty through exposed rock formations, steep canyons, and sweeping high-desert vistas. Prominent summits like Granite Peak, Paradise Peak, and Santa Rosa Peak dominate the skyline.
Trails and dirt roads provide access to the range, with excellent opportunities for both motorized and non-motorized recreation outside the wilderness boundary. In winter, the area transforms into a playground for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
Other Information
• Motor vehicles permitted on designated routes only.
• Inside the Santa Rosa-Paradise Peak Wilderness, only non-motorized and non-mechanized activities are allowed.
• Trails can be faint or overgrown — strong navigation skills (GPS or map) are essential.
• Cell service is very limited or nonexistent.
A rugged, uncrowded mountain escape that rewards those willing to venture off the beaten path.
