Description
The Toiyabe Crest / Arc Dome OHV Trails provide access to one of central Nevada’s most impressive mountain ranges. Located between the historic towns of Austin and Tonopah, the trails traverse rugged and diverse terrain — from glacial-carved highlands and steep canyons to sweeping ridgelines.
Ecosystems vary dramatically with pinyon pine and aspen groves at higher elevations giving way to sagebrush flats in the lowlands. The crown jewel of the range is the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail, which runs almost the entire length of the ridgeline and rewards riders with breathtaking panoramic views.
At the northern end of the range sits the fun, historic mining town of Austin — a perfect staging point with additional opportunities for off-roading, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The massive Arc Dome Wilderness covers more than 115,000 acres and contains the range’s highest point: Arc Dome summit at 11,773 ft. A short spur trail off the Toiyabe Crest Trail leads directly to this impressive summit. Wildlife is plentiful, including bighorn sheep, mule deer, and grouse. Anglers can enjoy trout fishing in the Reese River as well as South and North Twin Creeks.
Other Information
Motor vehicles are permitted on designated trails only. Please respect the boundaries of the Arc Dome Wilderness — motorized and mechanized use is not allowed inside wilderness areas.
This remote, high-elevation country demands preparation. Always carry extra water, food, warm clothing, first aid supplies, and tools to handle vehicle issues. Cell service is limited in many areas.
A fantastic destination for riders seeking challenging trails, historic surroundings, and unforgettable mountain scenery in the heart of Nevada.
