Top of The World - Rated 6

This route reaches the Top of the World viewpoint on Waring Mesa, offering a dramatic overlook of Fisher Valley, Onion Creek, and the La Sal Mountains. Waring Mesa lies east of Moab and south of the former Dewey Bridge crossing of the Colorado River. The trail features varied landscapes beyond the main viewpoint. Scenery Travels along the base of long Entrada Sandstone cliffs near the Colorado and Dolores rivers. The Top of the World overlook sits on a cliff edge above Fisher Valley and Onion Creek, with the La Sal Mountains to the south, distant plains, and the Book Cliffs to the north. Onion Creek canyon provides a narrow, distinctive contrast to surrounding terrain. The 360-degree panorama at the viewpoint is a highlight. Surface Primarily broken layered rock with shelves of varying sizes during the 4WD section (both ascending to and descending from the overlook). Includes some graded county road. Trail Details Begins at the site of the former Dewey Bridge on Utah 128 (bridge destroyed by fire). Follows a graded county road for initial elevation gain with excellent sandstone color displays. The off-highway portion begins with loose rock sections and several challenging shelf climbs that test vehicle capability and driver commitment. Winds can be strong at the viewpoint due to updraft from the valley below. Length: 64 miles of pavement-25 off pavement Min Tire Size: 35+ inches Winch: No, Front Locker: Yes, Rear Locker: Yes
