This loop explores the area south of Canyonlands Airport and west of Highway 191, incorporating portions of Bartlett Wash, Tusher Canyon, Courthouse Pasture, and the south base of Big Mesa. The route offers high variety in scenery, surface, and moderate challenges. Scenery Transitions from low drab hills near the airport to dramatic tall cliffs visible from Moab. Features colorful banded Entrada Sandstone canyons, prominent formations including Determination Towers, Monitor and Merrimac Buttes, and Big Mesa. Traverses at least seven major rock layers spanning ~100 million years (deposited starting ~200 million years ago). Surface Includes a sandy hill early on (sometimes challenging), wet Tusher Wash with a narrow, rock-filled obstacle course (risk of sheet-metal damage for wider/longer vehicles), slickrock sections, rock ledges, and miles of two-track dirt. Trail Details Key features include: Wicked Ledge: short hill before Wipe Out Hill. Wipe Out Hill: short but steep. Rattlesnake Hill: spaced bumps that challenge most vehicles on ascent.
