The Crystal Geyser is a cold water geyser located on the east bank of the Green River, approximately 9 miles downstream from Green River, Utah. It is one of only 6 cold water geysers in the world, driven by carbon dioxide (CO2) gas trapped in the ground. The geyser was created in 1936 when an oil exploration well tapped into a groundwater system under immense pressure.
The Crystal Geyser is known for its unpredictable eruptions, which can occur anywhere between every hour to 24+ hours. A 2005 study found that the geyser erupts about every 8 hours, but the eruptions have become more sporadic and widely spaced over the years.
